I offer counselling to children and young people aged 5–18, as well as adults. I provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can explore whatever is bringing you to counselling, at a pace that feels right for you.
Counselling can support you with a wide range of experiences, including anxiety, low self-esteem, stress, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, emotional challenges, difficult life changes and the impact of trauma. You don’t need to have a diagnosis or know exactly what is wrong before reaching out.
Trauma-informed counselling means I consider how past experiences may have affected the way you feel, think, behave and relate to others. My approach prioritises safety, trust, choice and working at a pace that feels manageable for you. You will never be pressured to talk about something before you are ready.
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and talk about what has brought you to counselling. We can discuss what you would like support with, how I work and what you hope to get from counselling. Most importantly, it is about creating a safe space and seeing whether we feel comfortable working together.
Counselling with children and young people is adapted to their age, development and individual needs. Depending on the child, sessions may involve talking, creative activities, play or other ways of expressing feelings and experiences. I work collaboratively with the young person and, where appropriate, with parents or carers.
Counselling is a confidential space, and I will explain confidentiality and its boundaries clearly at the beginning of our work together. There are some circumstances where I may need to share information, particularly where there is a serious concern about the safety of the client or someone else.
When working with children and young people, confidentiality and information-sharing are discussed carefully with the young person and those with parental responsibility.
